My name is Vicki Patrick and I am what is called a "hobbyist breeder." In other words, breeding Golden Retrievers is not how I make my living, but what I do because I absolutely love it. Poop scooping and all. And Golden Retriever puppy breath...to die for!
When I decided to increase my commitment to breeding, I did a lot of research online and what do you think I found? The most beautiful dogs I've ever seen in my life....English Cream Golden Retrievers! Took me a while to realize that they are identified by many names: English Cream, English Crème, European Golden Retrievers, British Whites, etc. Regardless of what you call them, I had to have one, which then became two and then three, etc. While English Creams or European Golden Retrievers are beautiful, I love all Golden Retrievers, hunt lines, companions and show, red, golden and cream! If you're looking at this site, I assume you feel as I do, that when God made dogs, he made Goldens....all others are just....nice.
I've now been breeding for almost 20 years and I've probably been breeding the English Cream Golden Retrievers longer than any other breeder in Washington. We live on acreage in Winlock, Washington...closer to my grandkids. Please don't picture my dogs running free, they're not. I don't believe in kenneling my dogs, but they are maintained in a fenced area. Hello....ever heard of coyotes, porcupines and other, unfixed male dogs looking for a short-term, meaningless relationship? The poor things only have three acres of freedom...
My dogs are all trained to voice command, they're house trained and several sleep with me at night. They do have to take turns, since all the dogs are just a bit much...I haven't found a king plus two dog sized bed yet.
My dogs were originally imported from Europe and I have retained their pure European lines in all of my breeding for those that are considered full English Cream or European. I also work with a great breeder of show Golden Retrievers and she provides me with outstanding show quality traditional American Golden Retriever females every few years. Like I said, I like them all. I blend the American lines and the English or European lines to create what I think is the best of both worlds. All of my dogs have been raised by me since they were 8 weeks old. I pick my puppies from champion show lines only or best pick of the litter with show potential. I have a preference in look, just like everyone else. I research the family tree to try to get a puppy with well tested parents back three generations so that you get the healthiest puppy possible while remaining true to the breed standards in terms of look, trainability, intelligence and disposition. All the dogs are tested at various times and ages to assure that they are and continue to be healthy and disease free.
We are a small family of Goldens, and always will be. We've grown slowly, so that each Golden had the opportunity to be fully trained and integrated into the "pack." Our numbers change as we retire or raise future moms and dads, but we usually have 5-6 dogs in the breeding program, 2 males and four females is the general population.
